Certificate of Concentration

The Jewish studies certificate of concentration provides undergraduate students with a broad understanding of the language, history, culture and religion of the Jews.

Download and complete the application form and return it to the Jewish studies program offices.
Candidates must declare intent as early in their program of study as possible and complete the following distribution of courses with grades no lower than "C" (2.00):

  • At least two courses must be in Hebrew language unless advanced equivalency can be demonstrated through an oral exam. Contact the Jewish studies office for assistance arranging and appointment for an oral exam upon application to the program.
  • One course with an emphasis on Judaism in three of the five following areas: religious studies, history, humanities, social studies, literature (three courses total).
  • Two additional Jewish studies courses in any area of Jewish studies.


Upon completion of the certificate requirements, candidates must notify the Jewish studies office. Completed courses are verified and recorded, and the certificate is issued.
